It's finally here!

After weeks of waiting, the free Ubuntu OS CDs are finally at my doorstep!

Codenamed Feisty Fawn, this version is a major improvement over the previous version. Even a newbie in Linux will be able to use it without much difficulties. Best of all, all applications in the OS are open sourced so you don't even need to pay for the softwares!

Oh, and not to mention the eye candy effect which can rival Windows Vista Aero effects at a lower hardware requirement.

Gadget of the month

Yes, the old router is a piece of shit. My wireless connection between my N93 and the router always get disconnected after a considerable surfing. Nothing can recover the connection until i reboot the router, then i'll have problem reconnecting to the ADSL modem.

So i decided enough is enough. After doing some quick research, i decided to get the Linksys WRT54GL router. Why this router you may ask? Although it is already a damn old model, it is a proven hackable router which many network enthusiasts sweared by it. At first wanna get the older WRT54G which is cheaper but the latest hardware revision do not allow third party firmware anymore.

Rode down to Sim Lim and started hunting for it. To my surprise, even WRT54GL is a difficult hunt. Most of the shops no longer carry that model. I almost gave up and in for the second option which is Planex brand, but i decided to try my luck on the last level.

To my delight i finally found the router and when i got it set up, i checked on the net and decided to flash it with DD-WRT firmware.

Now, my $90+ router had just revealed $1000 worth of features found in professional routers

Can't believe it...

After more than 6 years, this site is still alive with the photos of my bike when it is still new!

It's finally here

She got her driving license today.

No more bringing around that fragile paper slip that might just get torn anytime.

Watever

Been seeing the related ads recently and they're pretty humorous. Today i told them abt the ads, my colleague told that my canteen is actually selling them!

Being a curious animal, i went to the canteen and bought watever to try it out. The drink is pretty sweet with some taste of tea. Something i won't drink very often. No, it's watever......no it's Watever.... Argh! It's WATEVER!

Here's the broken part

As promised, here is the picture of the broken clutch lever rod. Now everything's good on the bike lol.

iPhone "Competitor"

Yeah right...

Concept is original, but is it practical?

Lucky Japs...

They always have the most technological advanced phones before the world gets them...

Boo Hoo for us!

Snapped at the wrong time

Today is a fine sunny day, where I and Dear are supposed to meet up with DaBitch & gang to go to JB to fix up their bikes. It's been a while since I had rode up North with them.

Alas, just hours before meeting them up, I suddenly felt that my bike can shift gears the GP style. I don't even have to clutch in at all (in fact i can't even control the clutch at all. Stopped the bike, made a call to Norman, and tried his advise by kicking the gear up to second gear from neutral to release the suspected stuck clutch plates. After several failed attempts, Norman told me it's better to tow the bike to his shop for inspection rather than damaging the bike further.

By evening, Norman made a call to me and told me the cause of the breakdown: a snapped clutch lever rod. Norman explained this is due to wear and tear since it's more than 6 years old. Luckily no other damages had been made. Pic of the snapped rod will be posted once i got my hands on it. Think of the brighter side, this shit happened when i'm in Singapore, not JB. Lucky bastard.

You'll need it when you have stomach wind lol

To all N93 owners!

After days of hard resetting, trying to eliminate the auto shut off issue, thanks to my friend Weiming, he pointed out what could be 90% confirmed cause.

It is a loose battery recess.

The loose battery recess somehow expanded (or battery shrinked?) and caused the battery to lost contact with the power pins and caused the phone to switch off. A simple remedy is used to solve the issue. I tear out a small piece of paper and slot into the recess to close up the gap between recess and the battery. Additionally i added a paper on top to fully secure the battery when the battery cover is closed. Since then, the phone had been running smoothly without the problem anymore.

Now i saved money on getting another phone lol.

Which one.....

Is the real Katong Laksa? Went to Katong to have this dish which had been there way before i was born. Since Dear will like to try it out, i decided to bring her there to have the original dish from the original stall. We tried the so-called Katong Laksa in Holland Village and Bugis but they are not the real deal.

However, when we reached there, we were surprised to see 2 Katong Laksa stalls divided by a road. One is named 49 Katong Laksa and the other 328 Katong Laksa. Since 49 laksa stall located on the same spot as i had known 17 years back, we decided to try out that stall. And ya the gravy is thick and the prawns tasted fresh, this trip is definitely is not a waste, although till now i still don't have a clue which stall is the original one. Oh well....

Old Woman....

Yesterday Dear and I are watching the local made movie "Just Follow Law" starring Gurmit Singh and Fann Wong. There is one scene where Fann's mom took a PC course and after which she mentioned that she had a blog of her own...

Nothing better to do, me and Dear decide to try if such blog exist. And guess what....

It does exist! Muahahahahaha.

Bo Liao.....

S60 users, some things you can try....

When your phone starts behaving erratically.

In my case, my phone starts to go crazy by keep going into auto shutoff. It happens so frequently that it hampered my daily use. I tried hard reset (*#7370*) but still getting the same problem. My dear keep urging me to change but no! The keypad of this phone is way too good to let go, not even the N95 (sorry N95 owners) keypad can surpass the feel. So i try one last ditch to see if i can recover the phone. I for one will avoid the service centre at all cost, so i reflashed the phone firmware using the Nokia Software Updater. Thanks Nokia for finally releasing firmware flasher. After reflashing the phone, i installed back the usual apps and monitor the phone till this moment i'm typing this post. No more auto shutoffs. Guess this fixed the issue once and for all.

So in future if you encounter problems like mine, and hard reset don't seems to solve it, try this method. The service centre will probably do the same thing anyway except i can't use my phone for 10 mins compared to 5 days in service centre.

Finally.....

Final Fantasy is now on PSP! This one is the 20th Anniversary Edition so the graphics is not the 3D version you see in the latest installation but the good old gameboy style (with slightly better graphics)

Tradition in a new can

潘高寿枇杷蜜 .

This is one cough syrup brand i used to take when i was young. Now when i went to get a drink for my dear, i saw the drink counter selling this. Being curious i bought one can to try it out.

Well, true enough, it tasted like diluted cough water and tell you. It won't taste nice if you are having as a dinner drink, plain yuck.

Now a new way....

to deal with handphone assholes who don't turn volume off during movietime... we deal with them... the dark side way....

Monday blues....

The Samsung BDP1000 bluray player .

Oh yeah, a new addition to my collection of tech toys. This time, it's the contact with the much hyped bluray technology.

As a way to learn more about bluray movie playback behavior, my company had given me the honor of bringing this USD1000 player home for me to play with. Whether this player will end up with me permanently remains to be seen a month from now. Till then i'm gonna enjoy the HD experiences while i can lol.

If you wanna buy a step-down transformer by the brand PowerPac........

Look at the burnt contact just 5 mins of use! .

DON'T.

found this transformer at this store which i can feel assured that the electrical stuffs they are selling are safe for use....but no.

When i set it up for my device which is using 110V, after 5 mins of using the player, i smelt something weird. I also a faint sizzling sound and i quickly took a look at the transformer. I was like, "what the fuck?!?". Smoke is seeping out of the ventilation vents of the transformer. Taking no chance, i quickly turn off the power and open up the cover. There i see, a charred contact on the 240V side.

How can the store sell such products in their premises?what happen if the user had not noticed the burning and the whole thing transform into a major fire disaster? The store should be responsible enough to ensure the electrical products are safe for use.

Fucked up. Now i'm gonna spend more money to get another transformer. FUBAR.
