Why I Chose To Jump Ship.....

.
from Symbian to Maemo:

- Maemo is Linux-based, meaning I can use linux commands in Terminal
- Total freedom in modifying the system configurations
- Active bug tracking system for bug reporting related to OS (Nokia) and 3rd party applications
- Open Sourced applications are available free thru app creations by the community to enhance user experience and expectations
- Active community where users/developers gathered to brainstorm and enhance Maemo ecosystem
- Dedicated graphics processor
- Nice eye candy transition effects ( with minimum impact on performance)
- Near desktop Linux experience on a mobile device, including web surfing.
- Unprecented multitasking capabilities
- Ability to flash like good'o Winmo style (no product code changing hassle anymore)
- Exceptionally good Skype integration
- Native support for existing popular media formats (with additional support available thru App Manager), including external subtitles support for DivX/Xvid formats. This means no conversion required.

While there's more benefits, the current Maemo device (N900) is not without its shortcomings:

- No MMS support (although there's a workaround)
- No Asian language input at the moment (there's third party workaround)
- No GPS voice navigation (at the moment)
- No document editors (at the moment)
- Still have some bugs and UI quirks here and there (Maemo 5 is a transitional platform development for Maemo 6)
- Some apps ported from desktop Linux and older Maemo version not optimised yet
- Awkward positioning of the earphone jack
- Poor battery life
- Bulky
- Far too basic phone functions (Nokia announced it as Internet Tablet with phone features)
- Basic Media player

Despite these faults, I could live with it and wait for new updates to improve this OS.

Mean little device :)
